Are 2/4 and 4/8 the same time signature in music?!

Question: im doing this music work book and it says to write the time signature for the given notes but im cofused.

Answers: im doing this music work book and it says to write the time signature for the given notes but im cofused.

Yes and no. 2/4 means two beats per measure and a quarter note is considered a beat. 4/8 means four beats per measure and an eighth note is considered a beat. For knowing when to put barlines to divide measures they would be the same thing. But if both time signatures were used on the same piece of music at the same beats per minute the 4/8 time signature would take twice as long to complete.

If you put the beats on here i'm sure someone could explain how to go about determining the time sig.
