You are right but alas people don'y have independent thought so they must rely on the pop culture media to spoon feed them "what is good" since plastic, corny music is safe and reliable that is what they spoon out. People should laugh, cry and get angry with their music

Because we don't get to hear much good music because of the control the record companies have on what we get to hear.
Record companies are still very much a powerful bunch and they have ties to media outlets such as TV an radio where they strike deals.
They limit the choices to keep us focused on a few key artists at a time. It's much more profitable that way.
Find alternative sources such as college, satellite, and internet radio (pandora.com) and share what you find with your friends and family to help counteract the influence of the big corporations.
