Who sang Its my party and i`ll cry if i want to? Why did she want to cry?!

Question: "It's My Party" is a song originally done by British pop singer Helen Shapiro and later popularized by singer Lesley Gore in 1963. This song hit #1 on both the pop and rhythm and blues charts in the United States and #9 in the United Kingdom, becoming Gore's only major hit in the latter country.

The song lyrically portrays the emotional downfall and public humiliation of a teenage girl who, at a party she is throwing, is humiliated when her boyfriend Johnny abruptly leaves her and takes up with her high school rival Judy, to whom he gives a ring to show his love for her.

The song's chorus ("It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to, You would cry too, if it happened to you") quickly became a part of American pop cultural language, as a phrase used to describe being utterly humiliated and miserable during an event that is supposed to be a happy occasion.

Her name escapes me right now, but she wanted to cry because her boyfriend (Johnny) ditched her at the party for someone else.

Lesley Gore

She was upset because they guy she liked (Johnny) was holding hands with another girl.

Lyrics:
Nobody knows where my Johnny has gone
Judy left the same time
Why was he holding her hand
When he's supposed to be mine

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

Playin' my records, keep dancin' all night
Leave me alone for a while
'Till Johnny's dancin' with me
I've got no reason to smile

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

[Lead Break]

Judy and Johnny just walked through the door
Like a queen with her king
Oh what a birthday surprise
Judy's wearin' his ring

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

Lesley Gore
She cried because Johnny and Judy are together.

Barbara Gaskin and Dave Stewart sang it in the 80's . she cried because her boyfriend came into the party with another girl

I always thought it was obligatory for a woman to cry at a party, every party that I have been to seems to have had one.

if its your birthday J,id say Happy birthday!no more tears!:)

Since Confuzzled already deserves best answer, especially knowing about Helen Shapiro, as Leslie Gore is often credited as the original version, I will just take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Birthday.

It was Lesley Gore who sang it and made a big hit with it in the 60,s
because Johnny went out side with Judy at the party and walked back in with her
She later made a second hit record with the follow up called
Judys Turn To Cry as she got Johnny back again

it's just a name you idiot
