do you have any friends that can show you the basics?
you can go to www.chordie.com and print off some basic tabs.
buy a digital tuner and tune your strings before you start.
the strings from top to bottom are E A D G B e

when you print off a tab it will look something like this:

E|---0---3---5---0---3----6----5----0-...
A|------------------------------------...
D|------------------------------------...
G|------------------------------------...
B|------------------------------------...
E| ----------------------------------------...

the space between those metal bars on the neck of the guitar are called frets.
from the head of the guitar (the thing with the tuning pegs on it) to the body of the guitar are 1,2,3,etc. up to 22 usually.

so the basic tab that i just wrote above is from "smoke on the water"
you would start out by striking the very top string (the thick one (E)) without placing any fingers on the frets (0 means strummed open)
then you place your pointer finger on the 3rd fret then move that finger to the 5 and so on.

just start out with basic one string tabs then once you get comfortable with a guitar and possibly build up some calluses you can learn how to make a "power chord" one of the simpleist chords to make.

hope that helps you some.
good luck!!!

buy a DVD or a book on beginning guitar. Helped me, and ive played bass for 12 years

You are going to have to take classes, so suck it up.

A good tool you could use was stumbleupon's search feature. (If you have it or can get it.) select guitars in your topics, music theory, and stumble those links only. I learned a lot in less then a month just because of the endless websites that you can find to learn. Goodluck!

Easy just go to a local music store and get lessons there.

Check out the music store. They have self-help books/music on how to learn. You'll start with simple chords..and simple songs....and then you just start going at it. Once you get better, then you can maybe take lessons for the more complicated stuff....

take a few lessons and learn some basic chords and strums. once you've learned 6-8 chords, you can play hundreds of songs

Well I'll tell you this, you wont have to buy a buncha DVDs or take any expensive classes. I would say buy a book and use the internet. They all pretty much say the same thing. I just took a guitar class at school about 7 months ago. It's REALLY easy. As soon as you learn where the notes and chords are you're all set. Of course you have to learn to read music too but there are tricks to learn those. Neumonics (sp?) and such.

Hi.

Here are some links to several good websites where you can pick up guitar on your own.
