Oh, so now they CAN predict them???

It won't happen where I am in west kent but if I'm wrong I'll let you know

It is not 9pm yet, and earthquakes cannot be predicted. But you can be sure there will be 200-300 of them in Britain this year, as there are every year.

They are nothing to do with global warming or the weather!

Hot magma in the centre of the earth creates a heat convection flow in all directions, which moves the crust above it.

The earths crust is not a single piece, but several giant plates moving in different ways.

At the edges of the plates earthquakes are caused either by plates sliding past each other, locking together and building up energy before it gives and releases that energy, or in a similar way where one plate is being pulled under the other.

In a place like England, up 1000 miles from the plate boundary in the mid atlantic, much small faults exist underground and are undergoing different stresses - pulling apart rather than pushing together, but the effects are the same - it causes earthquakes.

Expect a 7.0MLS earthquake in the Strait of Dover at least once every 200 years! (such a quake is due)

yea right. and at 12.47 am. a large spaceship will arriving to take you home, :-)

p.s dont believe everything you read in the media, or on the web, ta
