What is the difference between "house" and "trance" music?!

Question: I listen to absolutely anything (except a specific genre I wont mention in fear of being attacked by music lovers.. mmm).

Now I wonder what exactly is the difference between "House" and "Trance" aswell as whether there's a difference between say "dance", "techno" &"club"?
I love a good base!

A well defined answer will be much appreciated!
Thanx

Well, it's more about semantics and vocabulary than anything else.
Techno is a term that was once more specific but today is more generic. Electronica, trance, eurodance, house and Hi-NRG....and most other types of dance music are often just lazily called "techno". Back in the old days...late 80s thru mid 90s...techno was more specific. But it has branched out.
So, in brief, Techno can now be considered a generic term for electronic music. Of which, there are two subcategories: Electronica and Dance Music.

I. Electronica is usually used for any electronic music that isn't a type of Dance Music. It uses synthesizers and all that...but actually is more influenced by rock than anything else. Artists include Crystal Method, Goldfrapp, Chemical Brothers.

II. Dance Music often includes all the rest. Trance, House, Eurodance, Freestyle, Hi-NRG, Progressive, Drum & Bass, Electro-House, Club, Dance Pop, etc etc etc are all types of Dance Music.

a. Trance is the form of dance music that's full of fast repeating melodies & harmonies with a very "electric" sound. Artists include: Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Filo & Peri, Paul Van Dyk, Kyau & Albert, Above & Beyond, ATB, George Acosta, Iio.

b. House is the more "soulful" type of dance music. The melodies and harmonies are less complicated, and the beat is no where near as fast as trance. Artists include: Amuka, Barbara Tucker, Andy Caldwell, Deepface, Inaya Day, Freemasons, Georgie Porgie, Jason Walker, Joi Cardwell, Dennis Ferrer.

c. Club & Dance Pop are the types of dance music that sound the most like pop/rock but has a dance beat. It's almost like mixing house and trance together. Artists include: Danielle Bollinger, Tony Moran, Amber, Dannii Minogue, Jacinta, Rachel Panay, Kristine W, Liquid 360, Lucas Prata, Mon A Q.

d. Freestyle is a rare type of dance music, although it was bigger in the 80s and 90s. It is almost like mixing Latin music with house. The beats are usually slower than other types of dance music, and less repetitive. Artists include Collage, Cynthia, Lisette Melendez, Rockell, Thiago Derucio, Malyssa..

e. Eurodance and Hi-NRG are more pop-sounding, but very fast, dance music. It's like mixing trance with pop music. Artists include: DJ Encore, Ian Van Dahl, Sylver, Milk Inc, Kate Ryan, Jessy, Lasgo, September.

wow a robo dog!
sorry no input to the music question

Techno and trance, the two primary dance music genres that branched off from house in the late 1980s and early 1990s respectively, can share this basic beat infrastructure, but usually eschew house's live-music-influenced feel and black or Latin music influences in favor of more synthetic sound sources and approach.
To reiterate more clearly, house music has a syncopated feel that can vary from "lightly shuffled" to nearly a swung type feel. Trance strictly uses straight 8th notes, and any syncopation comes from the irregular placement of these notes.

Trance Music - really dreamy, hands in the air, eyes closed

Trance is a style of electronic music that developed in the 1990s. Trance music is generally characterized by a tempo of between 130 and 160 BPM, featuring repeating melodic synthesizer phrases, and a musical form that builds up and down throughout a track. It often features crescendos and breakdowns. Sometimes vocals are also utilized. The style is arguably derived from a combination of largely electronic music such as ambient music, techno, and house.

House Music - Its all about house Music

The common element of house music is a prominent kick drum on every beat (also known as a FOUR-TO-THE-FLOOR beat),

House music is a style of electronic dance music that was developed by dance club DJs in Chicago in the early to mid-1980s. House music is strongly influenced by elements of the late 1970s soul- and funk-infused dance music style of disco. House music takes disco's use of a prominent bass drum on every beat and developed a new style by mixing in a heavy electronic synthesizer bassline, electronic drums, electronic effects, funk and pop samples, and reverb- or delay-enhanced vocals. House music is uptempo music for dancing and has a tempo range of between 118 and 135 bpm.

Techno - Thumping Thumping Techno

The main drum part is almost universally in common time (4/4); meaning 4 quarter note pulses per bar. In its simplest form, time is marked with kicks (bass drum beats) on each quarter note pulse, a snare or clap on the second and fourth pulse of the bar, with an open hi-hat sound every second eight note. This is essentially a disco (or even polka) drum pattern and is common throughout house music and its derivatives (of which techno is one). The tempo tends to vary between approximately 120 bpm (quarter note equals 120 pulses per bar) and 150 bpm depending on the style of techno.

Trance is a bit more aggressive, more BPM. House can be more down to earth for example, the use of tribal instruments and such. These are my two favorite types of music.
