Is it true that most university students are "binge drinkers"?!

Question: I have read several articles stating that 70% of university students are binge drinkers. The definition for binge drinking is: 4 drinks for a male, 3 drinks for a female, at one sitting within the past month. Also, many respondants were underage. Are you an underage binge drinker or do you know any? Is it really that popular?

Popular and problematic...

I'd say that's probably not too far off. All it basically means is that the average undergrad has been to one major party in the past month. Sure, that much drinking is unhealthy, but it's definitely not uncommon and seems to be one of the rituals of college life.

What's most important is how the student manages his/her life outside of this one "sitting." Are there more binge drinking nights? Do grades suffer as a result? Does the student get into trouble due to public intoxication, DUI, or sexual activity at parties? There's a lot more to it than whether or not someone had four drinks in a night.
