Which guitar is better: the Epiphone Dot or the Ibanez AF75?!

Question: Which guitar is better: the Epiphone Dot or the Ibanez AF75!?
I am looking for my first guitar!. My friend taught the basics and I intend on teaching myself guitar from a book, I don't want to waste money on lessons!. Originally, I wanted a heavy metal guitar because that is my favorite genre of music!. But when I was looking on Ebay for a guitar, I found the Ibanez AF75!. I recognized this guitar looked like the epiphone sheraton II and the epiphone dot and researched for those guitars as well!. i came to a conclusion that the Sheraton II was too much money so it's between the Dot and the AF75!. I wouldn't try to play heavy metal with the guitar, I want to play music that sounds similar to Oasis and The Verve, two of my favorite bands!. Can you tell me the differences between the two!? What type of music they play best!? Other guitar reccomendations!? also please tell me if you have any of the guitars I mentioned so I know your level of expertise!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The Dot is a semi-hollow, as is the Sheraton II!. There is a solid block down the middle of the guitar that cuts back on feedback!. It doesn't eliminate it, mind you!. You can avoid the feedback by knowing where to stand/sit in relation to your amp!. If you want, you can try to get feedback on purpose and fool around with it to add to your performance!. The Dot is based on the Gibson ES-335, and is very versatile!. It's great for classic rock, punk, british indie, etc!. I'd also suggest checking out the Epiphone Dot Studio!. They are basically the same as a regular Dot, but with a matte finish instead of glossy, one tone knob, and one volume knob!. They still have two pickups!. Same great sound, though, and a lot less money!.

The AF75 is a hollow body!. It gets feedback like a crazy *****, but like above, you can incorporate the feedback into your playing!. It is harder to control than with the dot!. The AF75 is a little more geared towards jazz and rockabilly than rock!. If you want something a little more comparable to the Dot, and closer in sound to Oasis, The Verve, and other british rock bands, I'd check out either the AS73 or AS83 instead of the AF75!. Both are semi-hollow, like the Dot!. The AS73's are around $300 new, and the AS83's are around $450!.

I own a Dot (standard, not a Studio), and I love it!. I wouldn't trade it for anything!. I used to own an Ibanez solid body, and I loved it!. I know that Ibanez makes great guitars, so I'm not here to bash them!. I have spoken with plenty of Dot and Artcore owners who love them!. They are all great guitars, and you will no doubt be happy with whatever you get!. While I prefer my Dot, what matters most is what looks, feels, and sounds best to you!. Find a store in your area that carries both brands and the models I mentioned, and play them for yourself!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
