Did MTV ruin popular music by making image more important than substance?!

Question: Did MTV ruin popular music by making image more important than substance!?
I think it did!. After MTV came along you got a lot of acts that looked good but couldn't play worth a damn!. Some couldn't play or sing at all!. Milli Vanilli anyone!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
MTV and all venues of public viewing have put the emphasis on looks, glamour, antics and photogenic potential, rather than real talent!. "If you look good ya don't gotta have much talent" seems to be the motto!
Interesting question, Michael!Www@Enter-QA@Com

I feel like television on the whole did that, but MTV probably catalyzed it!. Before, music was heard primarily on radio--what was popular was what sounded good!. But as TV rolled along, image became increasingly important (think how important Elvis's image was!. We often remember it more than his music!.)

When MTV rolled around, it showed us a lot of the artists behind the music who could only before be seen live!. 80s hair metal all of a sudden had to conform to some sort of image to be aired!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

With media the thing that it is today, it would be hard to say that MTV is at fault!. I'm sure if there were never an MTV or VH1 it would still be the same fashion driven crap it is today!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

its not JUST MTV!.
i mean, MTV is bad with that!.
but its the media in general!.

I'd hope that more young girls look up to someone sucessful like Oprah, rather than Britney Spears!.
Its all in the image!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

That was the whole plan!.!.!.!.anyone but me remember the very first video played on MTV!?!?!?!?!?

On MTV (and in general today) it is more important to LOOK good than to SOUND good!Www@Enter-QA@Com
