Without a conductor any symphony orchestra will sound like the Goober Elementary First Grade Special Students Marching Band playing John Philip Sousa!. I have been asked to conduct an orchestra before!. It's not easy!. If you're really good, though, you can cross your arms and have one little pinky sticking out from underneath and conduct with that!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

If you know anything about playing in an orchestra is that you could have to count more than 50 bars til u get to play a couple of notes and then count some more!.
Its very complicated!.!.!.!.!.also with all that counting you can get your beat out of sinc!.
The conductor keeps everybody to the same beat, brings each instrument in at the right time, and makes sure that everyone is playing what they should when they should!.
It's not demented at all!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.its all got a reason, each different timed piece is conducted differently, and the movement of the other hand is to signal sections of music for people to play or how to play!.
And as for the head banging!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.well i think that is just when they get extremely absorbed by the creative spellbingness of the moment lolWww@Enter-QA@Com

No, besides being able to read music, a conductor needs to know everything that every instrument has to do!. Timing's important, and a conductor has to tell each when to start and stop!.!.!.and all that jazz!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
