I prefer to buy CDs if I can find what I'm looking for, because you simply CANNOT get the same sound quality out of an ipod or a file on your computer!. CDs lose a little of the warmth of analog vinyl, but they're still the best in terms of great sound and portability in my opinion!. So I like my CDs and a good set of headphones!. I don't own an ipod and don't download songs from greedy companies like Apple!.
I think downloading music for free is a gray area!. Look at artists like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails!. They are encouraging the option of downloading their own music for free!. A lot of artists aren't happy with what the consumer has to pay for a CD, since it's so hiked up by the industry!. I think if you can't afford to buy an album or can't find it anywhere else, a lot of artists would prefer you heard and enjoyed their music rather than that they made whatever little percentage they get from a CD sale!. Artists make most of their money touring anyway!. I think people who just rip ALL their music for free aren't very respectful of the artists at all, though!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I pretty much stopped buying them when amazon began offering copy protection free downloads!. Occasionally, I buy one if it has a concert DVD or if I plan to do any remixing of the music since !.wav rips are cleaner to work with and don't degrade each time you save them like !.mp3's do!.
People who download for free don't realize how expensive it is to produce good quality music!. Equipment, musicians, studio usage, mastering, etc!. is not cheap!. I always pay musicians for their music, though if there is a new band I've never heard and a friend recommends them, I'll download a couple tracks from myspace to see if I like them!.
