Playing fast notes on Violin?!

Question: Playing fast notes on Violin!?
I have been playing the violin for 7 years now and when it comes to playing the very fast semi-quavers my fingers feel stiff and awkward!. They never move as fast as it written!. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do and if there are any finger excersises please tell me about them!. ThanksWww@Enter-QA@Com

It might be how you are holding the violin, how your wrist is on your fingering hand, its easy to get into a comfortable position after 7 years or so that unfortunatly restricts the movement/nerves/blood!.

I play folk fiddle rather than classical (though I played classical stuff as a child!.) I do play some pretty fast stuff, ive found beyond a certain speed you got to have a sort of automated sort of shiver like action (not a very good description sorry), I think the best thing is to listen to the music you're going to play a lot so your brain gets the pattern and moves your fingers to it without you actually realising you can do it at all!. Beyond that I think just practicing lots!.

Make sure you're warmed up physically and musically before doing whatever fast stuff you're doing!.!.!. I've found before that i've made massive leaps in playing after being at a folk festival all week where you're literally playing half the day and listening to similar music the rest of it!. By the end of a day its so automatic you could make up what sounds like a pretty slick traditional jig just on the spot!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Start with a slower tempo and work your way up to speed!. Usually if you get a lot of reps in increasing the tempo slowly it will come to you!. Make sure your hands are warm and not cold and stiffWww@Enter-QA@Com
