Where to put thumb when playing the guitar?!
Question: Where to put thumb when playing the guitar!?
I have been told many different things about where I should have my thumb when I am playing the guitar!. I have been playing for over five years and have always had my thumb hooked over the top and recently realized that this may not be the right thing to do!. I have noticed that it slows me down occasionally!. I was told by a friend that the thumb should always be parallel to the fingers (so it moves up and down vertically with the fingers as they move up and down the strings)!. Does anyone know where the best place to have my thumb is!? I'm really interested in speedpicking and soloing!.

I think you are talking about the hand that you play the chords!.
Well, you thumb should be where ever it is the most comfortable!.
It does not matter where it is as long as its comfortable and easy to play!.
And your thumb might be in a different position when you play different chords!.
