the first stig, who wore the black suit, was perry mc carthy, an ex formula 1 driver who was sacked from the show for revealing that fact in his autobiography (flat out, flat broke)!.
his replacement (in the white suit) is ben collins, who has raced in ascar, nascar, touring car and currently (as far as i know) raced for ascari!.
the accident report into hammonds high speed crash states that collins worked closely with the top gear team as a high performance driver and consultant!.
collins also appeared on the show several times out of the jumpsuit, racing a teenager down a hill, catching a parachutist in a convertible, and playing car football in toyota aygo's!.!.!.he also took part in an endurance race with citroen 2 cv's with hammond and last year was visible to fans at the endurance race at silverstone (where the top gear team - including his stigness- participated!.
