Imprinting is like finding your soulmate only a much stronger attraction/connection!. It happens when the two people in question first see each other!. So, in case you're wondering, he can't imprint on Bella or it would already have been done!. He even TRIED to imprint on her in Eclipse and it didn't happen!.
Update: I loaned my Eclipse to someone or I'd look it up for you!. There's one point where he's telling her about imprinting and he stops and stares at her!. She asks what he's looking at and he finally says nothing!.
