whether or not the gift bags are for all girls, all boys - or both will certainly determine, in part, what you ultimately put in them (coloring, designs, etc)!.!.!.but here are some ideas:
cool key chains
small, pocket sized notepads
gel pens or cool pens/pencils
small picture frames with cool designs
maybe (depending on how much you want to spend and how many guests there will be) - a $5!.00 gift card to Barnes and Noble (or some other book/media store), or for Blockbuster!.!.!.or movie tickets for the cheap cinema in town
yo-yos (even 'cool' pre-teens like to play once in awhile)
old school games like marbles, jacks, sidewalk chalk, pick-up-sticks, etc!.
those rubber bracelets that you see all over the place
A pad of Mad Libs and a pencil
Is your party themed!? Maybe you could think of things for the gift bags that are linked to the theme - if there is one!.
I would definitely hit up a dollar store for some cheap gift bags and easy ideas!.!.!.
