Philosopher stereotypes/opinions?!

Question: Philosopher stereotypes/opinions!?
Philosophers don't seem to get much respect!. This might be due to an overly abstract way of thought, a contemplation of issues most people deem irrelevant, or a simple disconnect with daily life!.

So what do you all think of this lot!? Are they on the whole positive or negative!? Are they cynical dark poets, stimulating free thinkers, insightful dreamers, confused wanderers, arrogant pricks!?

Answers:
Honestly, if someone says 'philosopher' I immediately think 'old guy with a beard wearing a toga', and names like Plato, Aristotle, Socrates and the Sicilian jump into my head!.
But beyond that, i tend to think of them as more respectable, wise and caring than your average person, like that grandfather you always wish you had!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

Myself as well as a lot of other people feel that philosophers, while their work is very interesting, serve no real important role in modern day society!. Now before you all jump down my throat let me explain myself!. Compare a philosopher to an emergency room doctor!. One does work that has almost instantaneous results which benefit society very obviously, while the other may spend years just sitting and thinking having no outward affect (effect i dont know) and no visible results!. Man, screw that im way too drunk!. GEt a job HIppIE!!!!11Www@Enter-QA@Com
