Question: To the UNDER 30 Crowd!.!.!.!.(Mature language!.!.!.may not be sutiable for those without a sense of humor)!?
THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD!!!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears
With their tedious diatribes about how hard things were!. When they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning!.!.!.Uphill!.!.!.BOTH ways

Yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up,
There was no way in hell I was going to lay

A bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it

And how easy they've got it!
But now that!.!.!. I'm over the ripe old age of Thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today!.

You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!

And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet!. If we wanted to know something, We had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!! Dewey Decimal my butt! There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter, with a pen!

Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either!
When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games
Like 'Space Invaders' and 'asteroids'!. Your guy was a little square! You
Actually had to use your Imagination! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen FOREVER!

And you could never win!. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

Sure, we had cable television, but back then but there was no on screen menu and no remote control!

You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was
on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your *** and walk over to the TV to change the Channel and there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons
On Saturday Morning!. Do you Hear what I'm saying!!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we had to use the stove !.!.!. Imagine that!

If we wanted Popcorn, we had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing
And shake it over the stove forever like an idiot!.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy!. You're spoiled!. You guys wouldn't have lasted
Five minutes back in 1980!

Regards,
The over 30 CrowdWww@Enter-QA@Com

;)

good stuff momma!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Haha I'm 17 and your so right!. I think i would die without my ipod!. Without the internet i dont think i could pass half my english tests!. If I had to get up and change the channel on the t!.v!. i think id just quit watching t!.v!. all together!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Sure, I might have all these things now!. But when I was seven years old and living in a third world country, do you think we had all these luxuries!? I wasn't even going to be educated properly!. Me and my siblings lived in one house with one room and no toilet!. Our playthings were sticks and stones!. The only entertainment we could get was to sneak to our neighbour's window and watch their black and white TV, and when we got caught by our mother she would cane us and force us to kneel on sharp gravel for hours on end!.

We didn't even have popcorn or a proper stove! Every meal every day was the same - rice porridge with sweet potato leaves!. And if we were lucky, we would get boiled chicken and maybe a few cans of soft drink every Chinese New Year!. Milk powder was supplied at the local church every Christmas Eve!.

I had to get up at 3am with my mother and walk all the way to the rubber tree estates in the country (you think we had cars!?), where we harvested the rubbery sap oozing from the trees!.

Being the youngest daughter, I was expected not to be educated but to stay at home and clean my sibling's shoes, not to disturb them, and to cook for the family!.

Despite all this, I promised myself that I would give myself an education and make myself a place in this world!. I earned money by tutoring kindergarten and slowly, I paid my school fees!. My late father finally saw potential in me and brought me to Australia, where I continued studying and learned English!.

What do you say to that!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

I can't even IMAGINE using a PEN to write a LETTER!
Let alone walk across the STREET to MAIL it!.
I don't even know how to use a STAMP!.
Thank little baby Jesus for Facebook!

As only one of your long term contacts could say!.
For the "under the 50 crowd",

You would not have made it in the 50's either!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.

No wait, maybe YOU would have!.

You should see the vacant stare when I tell my sons that there were not even calculators when I was in school!.
How about black and white TV!.
or phones, party lines! Nothing like having to wait to make a call!.

How about steam trains!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

How about being a college senior and realizing that the job market hasn't been as bad in more than twenty years!?

How about realizing that you can't afford "the new iPod" or all these cool gadgets because college tuition has never been so high in American history, and the amount of loans we have to pay back are astronomical!?

How about wondering how one can actually graduate from school and pay for gas money!? And food prices (which keep going up but don't come back down)!?

How about struggling to make ends meet because our parents' generation are now overburdened with helping *their* aging parents!?

We might have email, but we have a higher workload!.
We might have cell phones, but now we have business hours during holidays and weekends!.
We might have more technology, but we have far greater competition than you do!.

Admission rates to top Ivy League schools such as Cornell and the University of Pennsylvania were well over 30% two decades ago!. Now they are around 10%!.

Twenty years ago, people still had hope that Medicare and Social Security would be fixed!. Now they are bankrupting our economy!. Twenty years ago, our country could hope for an economic boom!. Now, all we can expect is the worst recession in twenty years!.

Quit idealizing the past and realize that our present isn't so wonderful after all!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Lol Im 20 years old and I agree!. We do have it good!. And Your post was well written and very humorous!. I laughed!. haha

but on a serious note, Though things now are very much easier, things now are very much harder also!. I got my credit card stolen last month and got $400 of charges on it, and it was a nightmare!. Ive been struggling for the last 3 months trying to get a job, but no one is hiring!. Identity theft, the job market, government!. You know, they impounded my car 3 weeks ago and they tried to sell it 3 days later unless I some how came up with the $2000 upfront!.

Im telling ya, yes alot of things are incredibly easy now due to technology and in someways that is wonderful, but in other ways, its horrible!. Where is honesty these days!? Why does everything have to be NOW NOW NOW! you know what Im saying!. I completely agree with your post!. lol

EDIT: To the lady below me, not everyone is in to ipods, television and video games!. There are alot of us out there that did make up our own games, played outside all day, and do know what work ethic is!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Ahhhh FF Momma!.!.!. the memories!.

And with all they have today I would still pick when I grew up over growing up now!. We actually made games up and played outside with our friends!. We heard our dad whistle when it was time for dinner, and when the street lights came on it was time to go home!.

The kids today do live in what we would have thought was a Utopia!. But I actually feel a bit sorry for what they miss out on!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

holy **** that is so true !!! you are 100% rite !!!! the little shits would not survive !! can you picture them having to go up to the T V to change the channel !!!! it would never happen !!!! the over 30 crowd !!!!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Ahhh Jiffy Pop Jiffy Pop the magic treat!.!.!.!.!.
Those were the days that you were actually allowed out to play!.!.!.running across lawns, playing tag or Spring!.!.!.not on a "play date"!.
