Do you believe that personality is more influenced by horoscopes or chemicals in!

Question:

Do you believe that personality is more influenced by horoscopes or chemicals in your brain?

I believe that your brain wiring influences your personality development than the stars.

Answers:

Hi,
What a complex question! A mix of both astrology and psychology. With regard to horoscopes, I don’t believe the planets ‘influence’ us at all. I see a correspondence in the patterns of the planets compared with patterns in a person’s life/personality from their horoscope. I see a ‘connection’ between these patterns and cycles but this does not mean the planets have any power over us.
Also I believe the birth-chart shows the ‘potential’ within a person but if his/her environment fails to provide the means to achieve potential then it can be lost. Chemicals in the brain may influence our personality. But then again, so do genes and so does the environment. Behavioural genetics or trait genetics look into how genes influence our personality. About 90% of human genes are identical from one individual to another and behavioural genetics focus on the 10% of the human genome that does vary. According to twin studies, average heritability of most personality traits is .40. And while genetics determine a part of who we are, animal studies also suggest environment and upbringing can have a life-long effect on behaviour, temperament and brain chemistry. It has been found that the amount of parental attention received in early life can have a big affect on our personality. So, environment, genes, chemicals in the brain, upbringing, horoscopes … there is so much involved in making us who we are. Nature, nurture? I think it’s a bit of everything!
