I don`t believe?

I don`t believe in the whole horoscope thing, especially their daily weekly fortellings.
I do have a curiosity about what horoscopes say about different zodiac`s qualities and personalities..... how do astrologers know about zodiac characteristics and compatibilities.
I know that there are various classes of personalities and various personality types can be compatible with only certain others ..... but how is it related to when people are born etc.
Please explain so I have an idea.
