How "saying no can be a loving gesture", means you have enough respect and love-of-self, to know your limits-when you can and cannot afford to give, whether it be physically, materially, or emotionally. That kind of goes with "My Cup Runneth Over"-when your cup is overflowing is the time to give-but, give too much and your cup will be empty-and you won't have anything else left to give. "Giving parts of yourself away", means your investing much more than the person you're helping, draining yourself of your precious life-energy.
