That's kind of hard to do. I was there, and I remember free love, "turn on, tune in, drop out", I remember peace sit-ins, and love-ins, but to give specifics is kind of hard. We were pretty stoned most of the time. I mean back then you didn't buy pot but the bud or weigh it by the gram. You stuffed a baggie with pot as deep as your four fingers (four finger lid) and it cost about ten bucks. I do remember a protest in high school, we were the only school in the county that had hair and dress regulations. Guys hair couldn't touch their collar or cover their ears or extend past the eyebrows. Sideburns couldn't be lower than the lowest opening of the ear. Mustaches and beards were completely out. For girls, no pants, no open toes sandals, to check the length of a skirt the girl had to kneel down, the hem couldn't be more than 6 inches above the ground. We protested, refusing to attend classes until the restrictions were lifted. We won. Nobody really went crazy with it so the restrictions were removed permanently. I had big mutton chop sideburns and when it wasn't combed my hair actually covered my eyes! Gasp!

There were lots of comedy songs like the Purple People Eater. Monster Mash came out around then, so did "They're coming to take me away". These were a refreshing change from the death songs of the late 50's (Leader of the Pack, Tell Laura I Love Her). I'm wide open for interviews if you have specific questions.

That song is funny.

What?? Tell you some stories? Ok, once there was this crazy person that asked a question on YA! and nobody knew what they were talking about. The End.

Stan Freeburg's 'Rock Around Stephen Foster' album
Dave Seville and the Chipmunks..with.....ALVIN!!!!!!!
Flying Saucers - Part I and of course Partll
Lady Godiva
Nervous Norvous's 'The Fang'
Alan Sherman- 'Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah' (Camp Granada)
The Lurch- Ted Cassidy
Gitarzan- Ray Stevens (he had many!!

It was a great time!!

Puff the Magic Dragon came to mind :) So many fun songs... would be good if they had some of those today!:) Hard to be down when your singing about purple people eaters LOL

'Angry McCain' all the way, Peace.
