My birthday is December 2 and the whole time I was growing up my accepted stone was turquoise.
then all of a sudden in the early 80s Jewelry makers started saying it was the blue zircon ,I think it was a sales thing .because at one time the books on birthstones gave you a choice . Natural December gemstone--Turquoise
Simulated December gemstone--Blue zircon .then about 15 years ago I started hearing it was the Blue topaz.
which while it is a true gemstone is heated to cause the blue color.
probably turquoise was not considered an attractive stone having more of a masculine appeal so jewelers changed it ,thinking that the zircon and topaz being a sparkly jewel would appeal to more women.
I prefer the turquoise and have always considered it my birth stone.
