I'm a cancer too, but when people ask me what my sign is I say that I'm a cancerian. It sounds a little better -- at least IMO.
try understanding the history of the word and you wouldnt. cancer is crab in latin. as for the disease, earlier physicians saw some similarities of the shape of the tumor (the disease) with the shape of the crab, so they call it cancer as well. back then, latin was the lingua franca and was widely utilized in scientific names, studies and as you can see until today, so it sticks like that.
It has to do with the constellation of Cancer the Crab and nothing whatsoever to do with the disease....
That is indeed an odd one, I have always said it came from the name of the constellation, and had no idea why the disease got its name.
