No, there is no evidence of this. What you need to do is combine the elements of the Sun Sign and ascendant as both are significant. The Sun sign is what you are, the rising sign is how it is expressed to the outer world. What you need to do is look at the ruler of the chart, ruling planet of the ascendant sun sign and see what that planet is all about, where it is located, what it is doing in the chart, whether it is prominent, void, aspect ed, etc. That will tell you some info.
The Sun sign tends to dominate 75% of the personality, however, if you have 1st house planets, those will stand out big time in the individual.

I look at a chart and i dont see who has the greatest influence, i see the whole, every single planet working together, and i think thats the best way to look at astrology, dont look at the sun or moon or asc, look at the chart and how they interact with every planet in it.
we are a whole and not parts, you wouldnt be the same as you are now without the other.
Personally, I think this depends on how you define 'important'. No matter what the other chart influences indicate, the Sun sign reveals our true core essence and the lesson we are here to master in this lifetime.
The Ascendant, in my opinion, is also important but from a social point of view. When relating to others in public, it is the one core factor that makes us who we are, or rather, how we appear to be like. As such, it is certainly not an accurate barometer of judging someone's true personality (since only 1 out of 12 people have the possibility of having the same Rising sign as their Sun sign).
However, if you are alone by yourself, you will eventually retreat back to your Sun sign personality as there is nobody to relate to outwardly. The Sun sign ultimately forces us to view and face ourselves as WHO we are as individuals at the deepest level.
