Question: Because it is impossible to tell for sure when exactly that happens. Even with modern technology they cannot give you an exact time and date. I am very aware of my body and can tell within a day or two of it happening, but most people are not aware until they miss a period. Birth has the advantage of being a completely documentable event. That has advantages when you are talking about exact times and dates.

I think it is because the baby has not enter the world yet. The baby is not breathing or doing anything a human does.
I guess you could say that the baby and mother are one until the baby is born. So, what ever the mother is experiencing the baby is experiencing the same thing.

the thing is that generally people know the time of birth better than they know the time of conception. You can do time of conception charts and get good results if you know when it is.
Its is called "Nashta Jataka Kanitham" in Tamil. Yes you are right there are calculations for that too.
