I think that that answer doesn't imply that it will be a bad year for the rats, just that there will be major changes. 2007 was my year (boar) and it wasn't bad, things changed, some for the better, some not, but it wasn't a ''bad'' year.

First, let me clarify that I do not believe in luck, or horoscopes, chinese or otherwise. Therefore the fact that I am a capricorn, and whatever the Chinese year was for 1946, I have never had good or bad or any other kind of luck related to those superstitions. My advise is simply to read these things as a form of entertainment only, there is no validity in any of the claims made by any pseudo psychic person. I have never met anyone who was truly able to predict the future. If I do, I'll let them pick my lottery numbers.

My family is very much into Chinese superstition, and my mom told me the same thing (I'm also a rat, but not turning 24). It totally freaked me out considering I'm in a very stable longterm relationship and recently found a great job. I used to ignore my mom when she told me these things, but I've found that she's right a lot of the times (to my dismay, of course).
Anyhow, I can't confirm or deny the claim... just in the same boat as you, but I'm definitely trying not to let it bother me.
I, too was born in the year of the rat, turning 24. I find it so interesting that they say it's a year of change, because this month my life is headed toward a million changes! A new relationship outside of ANYONE I would have ever thought of dating, I'm moving and am also considering a new job.
I'm not sure whether I believe it or not, but it's interesting to know and consider.
Consider this. I'd be willing to bet if you'd never heard of this particular type of horoscope it'd not have troubled you in the least. Life would have gone forward, come what may, without you're even noticing anything peculiar.
My experience with "relationships" is that they are what they are. I meet those whom I am fiercely attracted to, yet they don't give me a second look.
Then I meet some whom don't move me in the least. Yet they chase me for months and months trying to initiate a relationship.
If I'm not attracted to them I'm certainly not going to get involved with them.
The Chinese have created this, among other things, through their culture.
Each society has it's own rules, ethics, morals, values, standards, ways of living, behavioral patterns, laws, taboos, etc.
