And it's not surprising that you don't stay attached for long...
Since your NN is showing you the ultimate life lesson of this life, it's easy to assume that those with the same elemental signs as your NN would already possess the qualities you're "seeking". Like a moth attracted to a porch light, these people display glimmers of what you are seeking, often without realizing it. And, since Scorpio's want to "pentrate" and pretty much possess those qualities, it's natural that you would fall into a relationship with these types of people. It all kind of falls apart when you realize that you are getting little "sips" of water from that person, but not the big, thirst-quenching drink you need to sustain you.
This type of thing will quit happening when you realize that you must integrate the NN traits into YOURSELF and stop seeking them in others. Then you will naturally attract those who will support that goal...

I'm a Sagittarius and my north node so happens to be in Leo too. I never really knew what the north node in my chart stood for. I would love to see what answers you get. Good question!
Based on your info, I would suggest that you are attracting them more on a subconscious level, either because you are trying to compensate for what you are lacking in the chart (fire element) or trying to balance the lopsided character traits reincarnated from a past life.
With a North Node Leo, think youself as posessing too much of the opposite sign's traits (Aquarius) in a past life. Thus, in this lifetime, you will learn to incorporate more of the Leo qualities and the fire people you come across will help, even in little ways, to keep you aligned on your soul's path this lifetime.
As a general rule, because of your detachment from the past life, you are not a fighter and are uncomfortable with highly charged emotions. Your alooness and running away from confrontations indicate that Leos can help to reinforce some enthuisiasm, self-confidence, risk-taking, individuality into you. Instead of being overly concerned with group or social issues, the fire signs, particualrly Leos, teach you how to be a child all over again, how to just live and let live by following your heart's desires and willingness to be the centre of attention.
It doesnt mean that you have to fall in love or mate with a fire sign, but they are here to help you get in touch with that part of you which has long been supressed.

I believe I'm enjoying the 'learning' experience. Had I no idea what the bigger picture (reason) is, I might be finding things quite painful.
You might want to bear in mind that, generally, a good romantic match for a Water person (eg Scorpio) is an Earthy person (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn).
