I suppose it's all relative to where the sun and the other planets are placed in relation to the placement of the ascendant. Circumstances where an ascendant could be a stronger influence: 1. The ascendant is in an extroverted sign while the sun is in an introverted one, provided that other planetary influences support the more extroverted side of the individual, or vice versa. 2. The ascendant is strongly aspected or there are a lot of planets in the first house, or aspecting the planets in the first house, especially if planets within the first house fall within the sign on the ascendant.
3. The ruler of the ascendant is strongly aspected in the chart. Yes, I think I understand what you're asking, but again, it all comes down to the placement of the other planets in relation to the ascendant. Take for example that Cancer ascendant. If there are more placements in the chart in more extroverted signs, lots of fire and air, and that ascendant is going to be weaker. But supposing that there's a stellium in Cancer in the first house, and maybe a moon in a water sign, a strong 4th house (ruled by Cancer), maybe a Neptune or Moon aspect to the sun, etc...and that ascendant is going to be a much stronger and more obvious influence to that individual. You've got a Scorpio ascendant with Pluto conj:) Yes, at first glance, I'd say that your ascendant is strong. But I haven't looked at everything yet, so...... Wow, well that's some chart you've got there. First of all, it's a splash type chart, so you've probably got a lot of different interests, but you do have a 2nd house stellium, so in that sense it could be interpreted as a splay as well. You would tend to be highly individualistic in the things you value. 2nd house is naturally ruled by Taurus, but you have Sag on your 2nd house cusp. The ruling planet of Sag is Jupiter, which is in your 7th house, in Gemini, but your desc. (the 7th house cusp) is in Taurus. The fact that two of the planets in your 2nd house stellium (Saturn and Uranus in Sag.) are the focus of one of your yods (the two planets in quincunx to Saturn/Uranus and sextile to each other being Moon in Taurus and Venus in Cancer) would make this area of your chart prominent. A yod is a more challenging aspect pattern, as the planets in quincunx are in stressful aspect, while the planets in sextile are harmonious. To put it quite simply, your Taurus moon and your Venus in Cancer work very well together, but don't understand your Saturn/Uranus conj. in Sag. Okay, first I'll address the Jupiter/Mars sextile...IMO, it's a really weak sextile, as it's 6 deg. from being a true sextile, so while the chart that I did says it's sextile as well, I'd interpret that as being a weaker influence. Really, anything more than 3 deg for a square, sextile or trine, or more than 5 deg. for a conj. or opposition isn't going to have all that much of an effect, except when transiting planets come into play. And you do have a stronger Mars as well, so that's going to make this aspect maybe a bit more relevant than if the placements for both were not as significant, but all things considered, there are other things that are more important in your chart...this just ties in to those.
So, back to that yod...the type of person that you're attracted to and find yourself in relationships with most often is home/comfort/security/emotionally oriented. A lot like your mother, really. These are the values that she upholds. Heavy on the security/comfort factor here. These are the things that you are comfortable with, as well. *But* there's that Saturn/Uranus conj. in Sag...and your Uranus is retrograde as well, AND your venus is in the 9th, so you have this subconscious urge to explore beyond those boundaries. Probably puzzles your mother a bit too, haha. So while you favour stability and home and comfort, and that comes easily for you, you need to explore beyond that philosophically, that's the type of wisdom that you value. And you don't really understand why, either, because of the Uranus retrograde, this is a subconscious urge for freedom...you value your freedom, especially your freedom of thought and philosophy and religion, but you find it difficult to come by, because of the stable and introverted qualities of your Moon and Venus placements within the signs, not to mention the Virgo sun. The third planet in your 2nd house stellium is Neptune in Cap, making you more imaginative in the ways in which you aquire the things that you value, but still wanting to aquire things nonetheless. You have no problem whatsoever with the idea of aquiring objects, money, status, you want this too. BUT you want to do this in a manner which will be in sync with your higher self. You're not going to be satisfied with a career which just offers you material gain, even though you'd do all right with that sort of thing as well. You need to do something which also adheres to your philosophical values, and highlights your creativity and spirituality. Are you musical at all? Your Neptune is very close to your 3rd house cusp, you've got Pisces on your 5th, and N. Node conj. that, Mars also in the 5th, in Aries, but retro, so you'd be driven towards creative pursuits, but again subconsciously, and you have Leo on the 10th (MC) which would tend to lead you to a more creative, dramatic career. You probably find some resistance to this in general, and probably feel pressured to go into a stable career and have a stable conservative life. Which appeals to you as well, but you have to do it your own way.
Which leads us to your second yod IMO the stronger of the two because it involves your Sun, Pluto, ascendant, and Mars, with a loose opposition to Mars (the focus of this yod) from Mercury in Libra. So in short, this one has all of the major players in your chart within the same aspect pattern. Your sun, your chart's ruling planet, your ascendant, the sub-ruler of your ascendant, and the ruling planet of your sun sign. The only thing that's missing is the moon, really, and it's kind of aspecting your sun by proxy through Jupiter which it is very loosely conj., although this is the kind of influence that you'd really only notice when there are transiting planets aspecting Moon, Jupiter or Sun. Looser aspects tend to be noticed more in transit because they just make a transit seem to last forever sometimes. In your chart for example, say a planet is transiting conj. your moon, while that planet may not be making aspects directly to your Sun and Jupiter, those aspects of yourself which are expressed by those planets will also be influenced by that transiting planet, because of the loose conj. to Jupiter, and Jupiter's square to your Sun. And the transiting aspect to all three of these planets will last for as long as it takes for the transiting planet to aspect all three of the natal planets involved...longer than if they were in tight aspect, because the planets are farther apart. So, In this second yod, you have Mars in Aries, retrograde in the 5th making you once again driven subconsciously toward more creative pursuits, quincunx Pluto/ascendant in Scorpio and Sun in Virgo in the 10th. Your ascendant and Pluto in the 12th incline you to be more reserved about expressing yourself, but give you great depth. 10th house Virgo Sun makes you meticulous and methodical about your career. Mercury in Libra in the 11th makes you a balanced thinker who's able to relate to a wide variety of personalities, but also a peacemaker who isn't likely to want to stir up trouble amongst people. You're more the type to go with the flow. So you've got all of this keeping you stable and grounded, BUT you've got Mars retro in Aries in an uncomfortable aspect to all of these things, working subconsciously to impel you towards a more creative profession. And you probably don't fully understand why, either, in part because of the retrograde motion of Mars, and in part because it's the focus of a yod...and that's what this aspect pattern is like. So this is where your ascendant and Pluto become much more significant. Because your Pluto is in Scorpio in the 12th, you have a desire to explore the depths of your subconscious, and also occult and mystical and spiritual topics and philosophies, but you are inclined to do it secretively. However, Pluto is only about a degree off of being in exact conjunction with your ascendant, meaning that while you may be inclined to express this in an introverted manner, Pluto actually wants to be expressed in a more extroverted and open manner, through your first house. This is something that you need to do, but won't be easy due to other influences in your chart already discussed. Still it's something that you already realize, as Pluto has already transited conj. your Saturn and Uranus, and is now in Capricorn and will transit conj. your Neptune and sextile ascendant/Pluto...I'd say within the next 3 years you're really going to start feeling the desire to express this openly. By the time it hits your 3rd house cusp, you're going to need to express this. Not surprisingly, Gemini is on your 8th house cusp (Scorpio's house) Scorpio deals with death and rebirth. Your entire chart points to this need for rebirth and rising from the ashes. As such, I'd say that Scorpio ascendant of yours is pretty significant.

LOL: looked at the links in your profile after I did this:) wanted to write more, but ran out of space.

  • It depends on the aspects to it and to the other planets a void of course moon and a sun in detriment and unaspected leave the ascendant dominant

You can't tell if your Ascendant is strong or not, until one sees the whole chart. You have to look at where the planets are and such.

So put up your stuff. :-)
