First of all forget about his birthday if he's not contacting you and not returning your calls. I suggest that you try not to project into the future but he needs some space right now for some reason and right now you don't know why. I suspect he is fine. So, I wouldn't worry about him. Keep the focus on you and your life. Just proceed with your life as usual. If this continues to drag out you have a right to ask him what is going on but without any judgement or or indignation. It helps to speak honestly from your heart.
