Each sign has strengths and weaknesses. Sun sign astrology says Aries are initiators of action, but get bored easily and don't stay for the long haul. Taurus is secure and stable and fixed in their opinions if that is what you need, but for ingenuity you might choose an Aqua.

I agree with Limey. The answer to this question depends entirely on how you are defining "powerful" within the context of the situation.
Aries is powerful in that they do what they want to do without being deterred by others, and they don't need others to start action.
Taurus is powerful in that they are extremely competent and capable and able to stay with things for the long haul. They also will not be moved from an opinion by everything they hear (and to their detriment, sometimes not by ANYTHING that they hear).
Gemini is powerful in that they have superior mental acquity and can charm almost anyone.
Cancer is powerful in that they weave themselves emotionally around others and make themselves irreplaceable.
Leo is powerful in that they're just the king s*(+ of all things, have enormous charisma, and are usually very attractive. Guess what sign I am.
Virgo is powerful in that they are flustered by very little of the emotional claptrap that waylays so many of us and they are efficient users of time and resources. They also tend to be the most intelligent of the earth signs.
Libra is powerful in that they can simply seduce you because they're breathing. They're so charming it's sickening and they almost always have some sort of artistic talent.
Scorpios are powerful because if you piss them off they'll kill you in your sleep.
Sagittarians are poweful because they have endless spirit, boundless energy, and tend to be very active.
Capricorns are powerful because they handle the material world like nobody's business and can make any dollar turn into five.
