We are still in the Age of Pisces. The Age of Aquarius won't arrive till about 2600.
The reason why there's been so much hype is because we are feeling the effects of the transition as we enter the new millennium.
Technically, it won't be the age of aquarius until somewhere in the 2300's.
On the other side, it would be very illogical to use the term age of [insert sign here] for western astrology, because it states that the zodiac *is* based on the constellations, which change in position due to something called a precession of the equinoxes. It is said to be a time between 2000-2500 years, going back through the zodiac; hence we are supposedly in the "age" of pisces now (the vernal point is in pisces) which will soon move to the age of aquarius (vernal point in the constellation of aquarius). Another not so logical part of this "age" thing, is that the constellations aren't all the same size. So if you acknowledge the existence of seperate constellations in astrology, you must acknowledge the fact that they aren't the same size and treat astrology accordingly. This means to incorporate that 13th constellation as well and for each sign to have a different size.
Not only will that lead to confusion (not to mention some constellations merge somewhere halfway... ) but it will also lead to wrong interpretations. Because astrology isn't based on the constellations; it's named after the constellations known in the zodiac wheel and have lived its own life away from the constellations since.
So, New Age people will tell you it is the Age of Aquarius dawning and the transformation will be gradual over a few hundred years so that you won't feel it (so typical).
But I say it's the year 2008 A.D., zodiac signs still stay the same and they will so for a long time to come. No such thing as age of aquarius or age of pisces. But if it would be true, logically the true age of aquarius will begin somewhere around 2350 A.D., when the vernal equinox point hits the so-called border of the constellation of aquarius.
