What does the degrees mean in birth charts?!

Question: The whole circle is 360 degrees. When two planets are very near each other, some say 10 degrees, some say 7, it's a conjunction. A conjunction means that two planets are going to be influenced by the same sign, in the same house most of the times.

Half a circle is 180 degrees, two planets 180 degrees apart is an opposition. Now oppositions get a bad rap, but I'm saying it's an opportunity to find the middle ground for the most strength both signs have to offer. Let's say someone has a planet in Virgo and a planet in Pisces, around 180 degrees apart. Virgo is logical, Pisces is mystical. They are opposite. When that person finds a balance between what is logical and what is mystical they will gain benefit from both planets and both signs.

A quarter of a circle is 90 degrees. In astrology two planets 90 degrees apart is a square. All signs of the same mode, Mutable, Fixed, Cardinal, are either squared or opposed each other. Squares bring extra energy to the planets, signs, and houses it effects. Squares also get a bad rap, but that's because people don't see that extra energy as a good thing. There's more Presidents with Saturn squared Sun than without. It takes someone with extra energy to get to the White House.

Two planets that are 60 degrees apart make a sextile. Sextiles are interesting because they will lay dormant unless the person takes action to initiate the good fortune that comes with them. If someone has Mercury sextile Saturn they could make a career using words, communication, if they worked on those skills. If they don't then nothing will happen.

Two planets 120 degrees apart is a trine. Each element: earth, air, fire, water, has three signs. That equals 12 signs. Trines are good luck, whether you do anything about it or not. I know someone with 13 trines and he is the laziest person I know. Too many trines makes people lazy because good fortune falls into their lap without them having to do anything about it.

There's other aspects, semisquare, inconjuncts, etc. They are all based on the degrees the planets are from one another.

This is a great question for this forum. People are too stuck on Sun sign alone, when all the other planets are forming aspects under the surface. I know a couple who have the same element in their Sun sign and that is supposed to be a good thing. But if the degrees their Suns are located don't make the trine it's not going to bestow that good luck from a trine. If there's other planets in conflict elsewhere between them even the trine with their Sun signs isn't going to make the relationship work.

Again, great question.
