Yes it DOES make you more MENTAL and less emotional. You're guided by the intellect instead of "feelings".
i dont think it means much, my dominant element is earth but im very intelectual because of my sun sign (aquarius)... i believe a dominant element is more associated to which people like you... per instance i have a tendency to draw easier people of a sun sign in water or earth than i have of fire and air...
im also a quiet person and careful over what i do (earth)...
Edit: speaking of intelect... albert einstein didnt had a air dominance and yet he was a genious... kinda makes you wonder ;)

Not necessarily, I just find them to be literally more "air headed". They adapt easily to situations, making them very social and able to communicate with anyone. But most of them lack depth and judge things from a shallow perspective.
I think Earth signs are very intellectual, Air signs are analytical.
