A birth chart is to a person as a blueprint is to a building. It maps out a persons life however, that person is not restricted to act only as the chart says. They can make choices. Just like a good blueprint doesn't gaurantee a good house and vice versa.
I like to think of a chart like it is the map of the souls intent this time around. I believe we choose it and before birth we have selected the circumstances we will be born into. However, the birth chart allows opportunities to develop our souls spiritually. If you don't really believe in that than maybe look at it is a puzzle. There are pieces that when put together form a picture, or the person.
Making a chart by hand is tedious so I recommend going to astro and making one.

What would that matter when according to one astrologer the possible readings for the most basic chart on someone is virtually infinite? In other words, astrology is guessing games and not scientific or logical at all.
According to astrologers your fate is either determined by the stars' positions or only influenced them. But what is the evidence for that besides mere opinions?
Yes, there are systems, but which one is right? And which of the countless variables in each system is the right one to choose? Do all astrology books agree? If not, how can you determine which is the right one? Is there any evidence that they wrong? For example, are there any people who have a personality that doesn't match their sign? If so, why believe that stars have anything to do with what your personality is then?
Like many con-artists who claim to be psychic, astrologers will tell you vague things which can apply to anyone or during a certain time in their life. Personalities don't always stay the same and sometimes people want the astrologer to be right so they behave the way the astrologer says they should. It's like when a doctor tells you that you that you are sick with something, and then you begin to notice any pain you have more than you would have and stress over it more than if you hadn't been told you were sick, and sometimes doctors are wrong, so they can't always be trusted. The Bible however, can, sometimes though translations have mistakes, and some ancient copies even have a few mistakes, but they aren't a big deal usually.
God too spoke badly of astrology and explained why a person sometimes is accurate when it was impossible to do so without what seems like supernatural help:
"If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, 'Let us go after other gods,' which you have not known, 'and let us serve them,' [then] you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For Yahweh your God is testing you, to know whether you love Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul. You shall walk after Yahweh your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast to him. So, I wouldn't rely on astrology when other astrologers admit it mere chance if they happen to get anything right. Use logical methods to get through life instead, not guesses in the dark.
Remember, I'm allowed to have my beliefs too, or must I agree only with what you believe? I think not.
