You are refering to mutual reception!. Mutual reception occurs when we see two planets, each in the sign ruled by the other!. Venus rules taurus and libra, and mars rules aries and co-rules scorpio!. So, venus in aries and mars in libra in a chart shows mutual reception!. (other examples of mutual reception include venus in aquarius and uranus in taurus or moon in pisces and neptune in cancer or jupiter in gemini and mercury in sagittarius etc!. for all possibilities!.)
It is not a separate study or branch, but instead is just another factor in astrology, it's a part of it!. Sort of like oriental planets or planets on the AP!. No difference!. When two planets are in mutual reception, they go together some how!. The planets reinforce themselves, act upon one another, similiar to when two planets are in conjunction!.
