BOTH are quite important and I wouldn't really say one is more "significant" or "stronger" than the other!. The ascendant is personality, physical appearance, and self!. The sun is creativity, self-expression, the father aspect, and leadership ability!. also children (with the 5th house)!. So, both preside over very important areas of life for everyone!.

Well, it's debatable which aspect of your chart is the "most important," but at one time, it was your moon sign that they looked at for the primary insight into your character, rather than your sun sign, as it is the moon that represents our inner natures!.
I have heard it said by some that the ascendant is important since it is, of course, our outer face, what we show to the world at large, and therefore its energies come into play a great deal more than those of our sun sign, but I'm afraid I disagree with that!. Our outer face is still tempered by the character-refining sun!.

i dont know but i know that my rising is more like me then my sun, im a cancer, aquarious rising and i am out there and independant!. cancers arnt that!. but i can feel very emotional in my situations, but people dont see me as crabby but rather happy and experiemental!.
