Do Sagittarians have a defense mechanism!?!?!? I'm really not sure that we do!.!.!.!.
If I were relying on my sun sign alone to defend me from outside attacks, I'd be screwed!.
Sagittarius is open, and forthright, and accepting and trusting to the point of naivete!. Not really big on defense!.
Sag has arrows, but we're pointing them to the sky!. Best we can do is rise above things, I think!. Let the petty and unimportant stuff go, focus on the things that really are important!. Not the most effective defense mechanism, because the offense from the outside still keeps coming on!. But eventually, we learn to develop a thicker skin to it, anyhow!. Or maybe some of us are born with it!.
EDIT: Jupiter allows for defense, he just doesn't participate in it!. Leaves it to other objects in the chart!. Like scorpionic mercury placements, for example!. Or Leo ascendants!.

Because of my Sagittarius sun, Libra moon, Sag mercury and Aries MC, I have very little defenses for my psyche!. If it weren't for my Cancer ASC, I would be always telling it straight out and then chasing my tail trying to appease everyone I offended!. My Cancer rising holds me back from blurting out the truth and making a mess of my life!. Cancer rising has to work very hard sometimes to protect myself from the fire/air combo!. However, when Cancer does open up, it all comes out in a very powerful, emotional manner!. Aries MC just hates that!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Taurus is great at locking people who hurt them (and it takes a lot to piss Taurus off) out of their lives!. You do NOT get back in!. I'm the living, breathing proof!. Once you've ruined it, you've really really ruined it!.

I would probably walk away and wonder what I did wrong!.

pisceans retreat, i think that most signs like aries, leo and sagitariius forget people, they dont need to protect themselves so much!.
