IDK these types of questions are so difficult to answer because they are completely based on your personal experiences and your sense of what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior!.
I have had the most awful things done to me by a Cancer girl and we were supposed to be good "friends"!. She pretended like she cared about me but really she was insanely jealous and insecure (the most insecure person I've ever met) and was plotting the whole time to get everything I had while hiding her true intentions- she wanted my boyfriend and all of my friends and she felt justified that she should have them!.!.!.so she made up lies and turned my name to mud while feeling bad for herself the whole time and acting like she had no idea what she was doing!. She was a real psycho!
This doesn't mean though that all Cancers are going to be like this just because she was!.
A backstabber can be in any sign so I am going to say every sign;-)

leos do it but not to be backstabbers, they do it cause the are instigates who like to get stuff going!. geminis are two faced, two faced and backstabbers do not mean the same thing!.!.!. geminis are VERY loyal to the ones they let in their private circle!. scorpios are two proud to do stuff behind someones back, they can be sneaky to achieve a goal but not when it comes to destruction, they WANT to see the persons face!. i agree they can be eternally loyal!.

Gemini and Leo!. Sorry, both love to gossip and will talk you down when you're not around so they can look better to others!. It's all about insecurity!. And, Gemini knows no loyalty!.!.!.or at the very least, it's limited!. You are only in Gemini's life if you are useful to them somehow!.
