They are quite different!.
I was born in the hour of the Snake so that is my secret sign, my inner sign is Dog and my year sign is Monkey!.
I feel nothing like the dog and my ascendant in western astrology is Libra which is somewhat like Snake but the Snake's counterpart is Taurus and I have no Taurus in my chart or Leo which is Monkey's counterpart!.
I have many Snake Traits but not so much of the Dog or Monkey traits so I thought I'd stick with Western Astrology which to me is much more accurate, but they are both good in the hands of professionals!.

These are two different concepts, so it's hard to compare them!. Neither is necessarily more powerful than the other!. It just depends on how much research and knowledge you have gained on the subject!. I, myself, know much more about Western astrology, so I apply that more to my life!.!.!.But if I were to talk to someone who had studied Chinese astrology, I may find out many things I didn't understand before!. They both work in their own way!. That being said!.!.!.!.If the characteristics of the Chinese Ascendant clash with those of the Western Ascendant, then which one would you interpret as correct!? I guess that would be up to you and your own knowledge of yourself!.
