I try to be honest and respectful at the same time!.!.!.!.from personal experience, if someone is kind of nasty or hateful then I tend to bypass it and ignore it - I don't even bother reading them most of the time if they are downright rude for no good reason! I wouldn't expect anyone else to bother with them either!.
also, it kind of depends on the mood of the asker - if they seem like a sugar coated answer would be easier for them to understand then I will sugarcoat it for them!.!.!.!.and sometimes I sugarcoat as a way of being sarcastic - sometimes, not always - lol - just depends on the question, my mood and the sense I get from the asker by their style of writing!.!.!.lol!.!.!.

I used to be very direct and found that some people took it too literal - for those people sometimes sugar coating is needed or they misunderstand!.
