While on a visit to America an English tourist joined a "Wild West" tour which took him around the land marks and ghost towns beloved of all tourists. On the second day the tour guide dirscted his charges to a native American reservation where they would meet, among others, a seventy year old Indian "memory man" who, the guide assured could remember every detail of those long years as if it was yesterday.
The British tourist, fascinated by this legend, was determined to catch the old fellow out. After crossing the old man's palm with the requisite amount of money he ws disappointed to be told that he could only ask one question.
"What did you have for breakfast twenty-five years ago today?" he asked. "Two eggs," the memory man replied. With no way to refute this the tourist withdrew, unimpressed.
Fifteen years later, on another American trip the same tourist found himself driving through familiar territory. He realised he was near the reservation where he'd met the memory man all those years ago. Now he had a real opportunity to test the old chief's memory - would he remember their meeting?
Making his way to the moth-eaten teepee he slipped inside and greeted the memory man in the time-honoured, Hollywood fashion. "How!" he said. "Scrambled," the old man replied.
