Just some riddles?

1) A man walks into the pet shop and the owner tells him the parrot gives the answers to any math problem he hears. The man immediatly buys him and takes him home, but the parrot never answers the math problems. Why not?

2) A father dies and his two sons are reading his will, it says "I will give all my land, fortune, and possesions to only one of you. Have a horse race and whoever's horse reaches the red bridge 3 miles away LAST will get my fortune." The sons immediatly get horses from the barn and race to the bridge at break-neck speed? Why do they go so fast if the loser is the horse who gets to the bridge first?
