If a tree falls in the forest and there is no ears there to hear it does it stil!

Question:

If a tree falls in the forest and there is no ears there to hear it does it still make a sound?

Answers: This is an old question and a good one. It helps people get used to critical thinking. First, what is the definition of sound. If we use the scientific definition of sound, which is that sound consists of a disturbance in the air, then there is sound. If we use a sociological definition, that a sound is defined by the ears that hear it, that it gets part of it's identity from the personality of the listener, then there's no sound since there's no one to listen to it and create a description. yea yeah just no one was there to hear it
but that doesnt stop it from making a sound Yes. Yes, it vibrates, which travels through your body to the ears, which makes it vibrate, which you know theres sound. I mean, whose ears vibrate on everyday basis? Yes If a bear poops in the woods and no one is around to smell it, does it smell at all? Yes. I could say yes, but how can we prove it? We can "assume" that it makes a sound, but we can never prove it because we're not there to hear it. Deep right? ;P everyone said yes, so i'm gonna be an oddball and say no By the way, David, you didn't give an answer Yep. There may be ears of corn....to hear it... If no one was there to hear it, how do you know the tree fell?
If a man says something and no woman is there to tell him he is wrong, is he still wrong?
If it could be proved that Elvis is not dead, would the Pope still be Catholic? definately!!!!!

hey the animals in the forest heard it!!!! SOUND

1. the sensation produced by stimulation of the organs of hearing by vibrations transmitted through the air or other medium.
2. mechanical vibrations transmitted through an elastic medium, traveling in air at a speed of approximately 1087 ft. (331 m) per second at sea level.
3. the particular auditory effect produced by a given cause: the sound of music.
4. any auditory effect; any audible vibrational disturbance: all kinds of sounds.
5. a noise, vocal utterance, musical tone, or the like: the sounds from the next room.

A.K.A... YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES Well if no one was there to "hear" it how do you really know it FELL at all? Maybe it just grew sideways?
