Riddle! :D?!

Question:

Riddle! :D?

There are two brothers. One always tells the truth. The other always tells lies. You are walking to Denver and you come to a fork in the road. One brother is standing at each path, but you don't know who is who. You are allowed to ask one question to either brother. What question could you ask that would get you to Denver? Explain...

Best answer goes to the person who can figure it out correctly and explain it most thoroughly! It's not for school; I actually know the answer. I just wanna see how crafty you all really are ;) Good luck.

Answers: ask if you were your brother what would you say is the way to Denver. they would both tell you the same answer, but you need to go the opposite direction they tell you because they would both tell you the wrong way.
the one who tells the truth would say what the lier says, and the lier would tell you what he lies about being the right way

thorough enough? the question one could ask is, "If I were to ask your brother whether you always tell the truth, what would he say?" A reply of "no" means you are talking to the truth teller, a reply of "yes" means you are talking to the liar.

Another possible question is, "If I were to ask you whether you always tell the truth, what would you say?" In this case a reply of "yes" means you are talking to the truth teller and a reply of "no" means you are talking to the liar.

Both questions take advantage of the liar lying about what he or his brother would say, creating a double negative type situation. Explain HOW to get to Denver. If one stutters or gets confused, more likely there lieing. select me for best answer dude... Ask a question that requires you to be honest. The one that gives you the correct answer is the one who tells the truth. yrp07 is on the right track but her questions actually won't help you get to Denver because she never really asks how to get there.

This is a popular riddle told by many math teachers.

I'm not trying to steal yrp07's credit because she practically answered the question. But basically you pick a path and say, "If you tell me this path is correct, would your brother have said the same thing?"

So let's go through all the scenarios.

A is the truthful guy
B is the liar
+ means yes/agree
- means no/disagree

IF you talk to A first two things can happen.

If path is correct and A is forced to say +, B will -, A will say -
If path is wrong and A is forced to say +, B will -, A will say +

If you talk to B,

If path is correct and B is forced to say +, A will +, so B will say -
If path is wrong and B is forced say +, A will -, B will say +

So no matter which path you choose, by asking that question, the correct path will always yield a "No" answer and the wrong path will yield a "Yes" answer.
