Riddle: The farmer and the river. Brain twister!!!?!

Question: A farmer needs to cross the river. He has a chicken, a goat and his faithful (but mischievous) dog with him. He only has a small boat that will ONLY hold himself and ONE of his three animals at one time. If he leave the dog alone with either the goat or the chicken, the dog will eat them. How does he get all three animals (one at a time) safely across the river alive?

Oh, and no, he doesn't have a cage. Or a muzzle. There is no bridge. The water is freezing cold, so nothing can swim or be dragged behind the boat.

This is not a trick question. It is all about the strategy of the simple instructions.

takes himself and the dog.

comes back.

picks up the goat, takes it to the other side.

comes back with the dog and leaves the goat.

takes the chicken and leaves the dog.

drops the chicken off and goes back for the dog.

takes the dog back again and hes got all 3 animals and himself over the other side.

Well sorted and I`m blonde!

chicken first
goat second
dog last

first take the dog then take the chicken then bring the dog back and get the oat and leave the dogg then finally get the dog over the river and presto no animal ends up being eaten hope this helps

let the dog eat the chicken. then goat. the chicken is still alive(but being slowly digested).

take the dog across, go back alone. Take the goat across, take dag back with you. Take chicken across, come back alone, take dog across.
DONE!
You can switch chicken and goat around if you want.
