Why do people refer to farting as "cutting the cheese"?!
Question: I really don't get it! I remember that once I told a German friend of mine about this expression and that he sort of laughed and said, "Well, I guess their smell explains the reason why!" I've come across cheese that smells like feet, but I've never come across any that smells like farts. Can anybody here explain this?

With some types of cheese, once you cut into them, they give off a distinct odor similar to flatulence.
Once you cut into "Government Cheese!!!" it not only reeks of fart, it releases a huge gasball of vapors that, once inhaled, can lead to delirium and possibly a mental lapse in judgement, causing rather strange behavior, such as repetitive use of idiotic talking points and an unhealthy obsession with ex-presidents.
Because if you ever smelled cheese for the first time it Stinks like a fart. or an unfamiliar odor.
