What is this Family Guy joke in reference to?!

Question: In the Family Guy episode "Road to Rhode Island" there's a lyric from Stewie and Brian's big number that goes "Like a masochist to Newport we're Rhode Island bound!"

So, I don't get it. Hah. What is it in reference to?

its a bondage reference

hmm not sure maybe just part of the song?

no clue

It is just a lyric, it wasn't a joke, they used it to rhyme.

The song is a parody of the songs in the old Hope/Crosby "Road" pictures.

I'd imagine that they think Newport is Rhode Islands's Detroit... you have to enjoy pain to go there!

Ps Ha Rhode Island BOUND... it's a Bondage joke

people from Massachusetts are stupid and get lost alot

possibly they are insulting Newport, do you know what masochism is? it is the purposeful making pain to oneself.

maybe Newport is known for having a lot of masochists?!?

I think it just has to do with Newport being in Rhode Island and "bound" like tied up relates to masochism. That's what I thought, but I really didn't catch all the words when I listened to it the first time

who knows could just be family guy creators completely off his nut kind of like the one they did about Brittany spears being a bad mom that was hilarious

There's a town in Rhode Island...Newport....Stewie must not like the climate there or something..as a masochist is someone who enjoys bad things, pain, does what they don't want to do.....It's in the dictionary

ilke a varin

no clue but i dont think the point of family guy is to actually make sense of what happens. its suppose to be stupid and thats what it makes it so funny

I found this website with the backgrounds of the characters, and Lois apparently was a Newport (well to do socialite) and gave it all up for Peter:
check out this website it might help explain the lyrics, which were basically a song of rhyme, and for those who really don't understand the song is about Rhode Island, NOT Massachusetts

Sorry I don't watch that show.

I think its just supposed to sounds funny. Like...going to newport would actually suck, but for a masochist thats a good thing?
