They're all really great. I've included some suggestions for improving them but don't think that makes them bad. I particularly like 2, 5 and 10 and also 3 but they were all really good. :) My ratings are as follows:
1. - 6 (it's a good quality picture but, because of being a common subject, is not as interesting as it would be taken from another angle e.g. below.)
2. - 10 (Great subject with soft lens used to change the atmosphere of the image. Warm colours make the image look harmonious and the dark eyes near the centre of the image draw you in and make it look intriguing.)
3. - 9 (looks less developed than no. 2 but great subject with the contrast of the autumn leaves against the black fur adding to the composition. Perhaps changing the contrast or working on making the eyes more vibrant to make the image stand out more and look more completed.)
4. - 7 (It must have taken ages to get that hamster to stand still. The look on its face it great but the background really detracts from the image. A plain fabric with a soft texture would put more attention on the hamster. Make sure they complement each other, perhaps a bright blue, red or green. Also, increase the saturation and contast of the image to make it look brighter and more eyecatching.)
5. - 10 (The sharpness of this image is what first catches your eye: it is clear with an incredible amount of detail but it all adds together to form a completed image. The plain white background makes it look clearer and more versatile in its uses while the shadow gives it a position in space and brings it into the third dimention, great standard of photography.)
6. - 8 (The quality is great, with the colour harmonious and bright, the complex pattern of the leaves in the background not detracting from the bright simple central flower. The bur in the background makes the picture more completed without making it confusing or unrealistic. Brilliant for floral photography but, once again, because of the type of photograph, it will not stand out against others of its kind.)
7. - 7 (The background of the image is great with a harmony built up with the white and blue but the many lights of the christmas tree detract from it, causing glare in the camera lens and making the image appear less developed. Landscape or just with a longer width, the image would look more complete, with the christmas tree placed in more of a context. The quality could also be improved. )
8. - 4 (This image is clearly made using a photo-editing program or computer drawing. The edges are sharp and many parts of the picture look flat where detailed photographs are compined with simple clipart. The different images in this composition don't add to the overall idea and look alien to each other.)
9. - 8 (Simple and to the point. In the right context this image could help to get accross the message and clearly illustrate a point. The bright colours go well with each other and the simple white background does not overcomplicate it or remove the main focus. The effect is almost of a watercolour painting or print. Black border, although not part of the image could be removed and white background be made transparent for use on coloured webpages.)
10. - 10 (light-up eyes do not cause glare or make the photograph amateur-looking, instead drawing the viewer to a particular point in the image. Light source has been used well to create an interesting tonal effect with the smooth parts of the robo-panda which contrast with the fur of the soft toy next to it. The photographer has used good lighting and positioning to bring out the best features of both. Minimalistic background and light shadows make the image look clear while lighted and reflective highlights prevent too much dark from accumulating.)
Overall, the pictures are really good, with varying levels of achievement and, although very different are of a high standard. Why did you choose these pictures in particular?
