Is midnight 12 o'clock AM or PM?!

a.m. is Latin for ante meridiem (before noon)
p.m. is Latin for post meridiem (after noon)
12:00 is either 12:00 noon or 12:00 midnight, but cannot be a.m. or p.m. (because they are neither before noon nor after noon!)

12 o'clock midnight is just that - neither am nor pm. 1 minute past midnight however, is 12.01am. The same principle applies for 12 noon.

the next day really does start at 1201.... but by the use of modern day logic and such, we are now used to the day starting at 1200, so it is AM.
